How Samoan Values Shape Our Mission at Measina Samoa

At Measina Samoa, we’re inspired daily by the Samoan values that are the foundation of everything we do. Our mission, "to share the treasures of Samoa with the world," is guided by the values of love, knowledge, innovation, collaboration, respect, and authenticity. These principles not only connect us with our Samoan heritage but also drive us to preserve and celebrate Samoan culture in all its beauty.

Alofa (Love) is at the heart of every product, workshop, and online course we create. We believe that sharing our culture must come from a place of faaaloalo (respect) and dedication. During our Siva Afi Classes we teach from a place of alofa because we know that each person is starting from a different place. The way that each of us learn is also different, so we show alofa by getting to know each student and teaching to their strengths.

Through collaboration with Samoans worldwide, we embrace the knowledge, traditions, and authentic voice of Samoa, ensuring that what we share is true to our heritage. We know that we do not hold all of the Samoan cultural knowledge. We believe that by reaching as many knowledge holders and bringing that knowledge into one space will be able to give Samoans around the world more power over their identity journeys and what knowledge they would like to learn. 

Innovation also plays a role as we seek out new ways to teach, connect, and foster lifelong learning about Samoan culture. We know that in person learning is the way to go if you can get it. We also know that not everyone likes to learn this way or have classes in their areas. This is why we believe that online learning is the way to go. By learning online those who like to learn at their own pace and without interruptions from other students can succeed with online courses. Those who do not have classes in their areas can still access the knowledge from wherever they are in the world taking away location as a barrier.

As we carry forward the Samoan values that shape our mission, we remain committed to amplifying Samoan voices and enriching lives through the treasures of Samoa. Each interaction, whether through a workshop or product, is a way to honor our culture and share it with those who seek to understand and celebrate it.
